NHS to honor gymnasium and court

Northampton will be honoring two former greats over the next couple of weeks starting with tomorrow's night's basketball game against Parkland.

Pete Schneider, a member of Northampton's 1937 "Wonder Team," will have the high school gymnasium named after him in a ceremony that will take place at 6:45pm tomorrow night.

The high school basketball court will be named after Bob Nemeth on January 3 prior to the K-Kids contest against Whitehall.

The dedications for both individuals highlight two of Northampton's greatest athletes ever, as Schneider was named to the Northampton Area School District hall of fame, as well as receiving the same honors at Muhlenberg College and the Lehigh Valley football and basketball hall of fames.

Nemeth was the Northampton boys' basketball coach from 1965-1976 and holds the record for the most wins in school history, holding a career mark of 196-69.

His teams won four Lehigh Valley Championships, one East Penn Conference title and a 1972 district championship.
