Girls still looking to get in the win column

"We're just not finishing and we're not taking advantage of what chances we've been given," Jeff Jacksits said Tuesday.

Jacksits, whose Northampton girls' basketball team is winless after four games, seems stumped about why the Konkrete Kids aren't winning.

"We've made inopportune mistakes - like missing easy layups, making too many turnovers and having mental breakdowns on defense," Jacksits said after his Kids lost 32-28 to Pleasant Valley Monday night. "We're not mentally strong and we're still trying to work out our kinks. The girls are giving a great effort, but we must do more."

Jacksits, in his 11th year as the K-Kids' coach, points out that, "we have to put four periods together. Against Pocono Mountain West (last Friday) we had 31 solid minutes, but the final minute was a fiasco," as the Panthers rallied for a 46-44 win.

After losing twice in the Owen J. Roberts Tip-Off Tournament the Kids dropped their first two Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games by losing to Pleasant Valley and PM West.

Then Tuesday night's game with East Stroudsburg South (another EPC Mountain Division foe) was postponed until Wednesday (too late for this edition) and the Kids had to wait another day to get a shot at their first win.

"It's been tough and it's going to get tougher when we start playing our Skyline Division opponents like Parkland, Nazareth and Central Catholic," Jacksits elaborated.

"One game our foul shooting has been terrible, another time we fell too far behind early, then we couldn't hang on to a lead after three quarters, and then our foul shooting hurt us again. We get our chances but can't capitalize on them," Jacksits concluded.

Northampton visits Parkland Friday and entertains Emmaus Tuesday before playing in the State College Kiwanis Tournament Dec. 29 and 30 along with Burrell, North Schuylkill and State College.

Meanwhile, Northampton's girls provided "a 100 percent effort" while helping Northampton Quota Club conduct a Santa's Workshop benefit for the Food Bank Saturday at the East Allen Township Fire Station.
