SP tops LVL standings
Once again, South Parkland is battling its way through the Lehigh Valley Legion League while sitting on top of the standings.
The Trojans enter this week at 9-1 overall with a pair of nonleague wins added to a 7-1 league record. Their only loss this season came against Lower Macungie, a team that has been somewhat of a nemesis for South Parkland for the past few seasons.
The tough part in analyzing South Parkland is determining if it is an offense-first team with strong pitching or a pitching-first team with strong offense. That balance has defined the team throughout the season and in its past few seasons as well.
The team has a combined 1.70 ERA.
Carter Wanamaker has thrown seven scoreless innings for the Trojans with Ryan Rooney adding four more scoreless innings out of the bullpen and collecting one save in one opportunity this season. Ben Taylor (0.68) and Mark Parsell (0.70) both have an ERA under one and Nick Bowser (1.17) and Carter Delong (1.83) are both under the two mark.
At the plate, the Trojans are hitting .376 as a team with four home runs and 105 runs scored through their 10 games.
Ben Weninger is batting .576, Jake Strobl and Parsell are both hitting an even .500 and Jaxon Kramer (.471), Shaye Wanamaker (.455), Andrew Bowser (.417), and Brayden Zobel (.400) are all at or above the .400 mark.
The Trojans sent a message and avenged their earlier loss to the Mustangs when they defeated Lower Mac 4-2 last week.
Weninger doubled while Strobel and Grant Damweber both singled to drive in runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead. In the next inning, the Trojans added an insurance run on an RBI groundout by Taylor.
Parsell went the distance on the mound, throwing 97 pitches – 71 for strikes – allowing four hits and no walks while striking out seven. One of the two Lower Mac runs was unearned.
