NV Sr. CM team beats Emmaus
The Northern Valley Senior Connie Mack team stopped a four-game losing streak with a win last week, as it finished off the month of June with three games.
Last Wednesday night, the Chargers took down Emmaus 9-3, but then lost back-to-back games to conclude the month, 8-4 at Nazareth on Friday and 10-5 at Silver Creek this past Monday night.
Emmaus took an early lead, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. Northern Valley responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame, thanks to a two-run home run by Brandon Gonzalez.
After a scoreless second, Emmaus tied the score with a run in the top of the third. But once again the hosts answered and scored two runs in the fourth and added five more in the fifth to add the cushion to secure the victory.
The Chargers finished with 12 hits, led by three from Ben Storch, who also had two RBIs. Ryan Ebeling tallied two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
Calvin Kulp, Jacob Spatz, Gonzalez, Tanner Fronina, Bill Saltzer, Nathan Kinney and Richie Reinhart all contributed a hit.
Reinhart got the start on the mound and earned the win, throwing 4.1 innings, allowing just four hits, two runs, while striking out six batters.
Against Nazareth, Northern Valley got on the scoreboard first with a run in its first at-bats, but the Blue Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the second to take the lead.
Kulp ripped an RBI single in the top of the fourth to tie the score at 2-2, but once again Nazareth had a two-run inning in the bottom part to go up 4-2. Kulp picked up another RBI in the top of the sixth to pull to within just one, but the Blue Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take control. Cam Petrucelli worked a bases-loaded walk, earning an RBI in the top of the seventh for his team’s fourth run.
Northern Valley outhit Nazareth 8-4, with Kulp finishing with three hits and Connor Hausman totaled two hits. Mason Malosh, Spatz and Gonzalez all had a hit.
In the game with Silver Creek, the Chargers went down 5-0 after just two innings and then 9-2 after four, and could not mount a comeback. They finished with 13 hits, three coming from both Gonzalez and Ebeling and two from Kinney, Hausman and Reinhart.
Henry Fitzgerald had the other hit for the visitors, and each of Kinney, Gonzalez, Hausman, Ebeling and Saltzer all added an RBI.
Northern Valley dropped to 3-11 overall with three games left in the regular season.
The Chargers have a week off before their next game on Monday at unbeaten Southern Lehigh. They will then host Saylorsburg on Wednesday and Lehigh Bethlehem Friday in the season finale.
