Summer hoops heading to playoffs

Summer basketball in Catasauqua is winding down at the Catasauqua and North Catasauqua playgrounds and the postseason is around the corner.

This week, we mark the beginning of the playoffs at the Catasauqua playground, and the final week of the regular season at the North Catasauqua playground.

At Catasauqua, program director Eric Snyder has seeded the eight teams for the playoffs that began the quarterfinal round Tuesday.

Top-seeded LV Jays (6-1) met eighth-seeded Zone 6 (1-6), second-seeded Daku (6-1) met seventh-seeded AAO (1-6), third-seeded Rebels Farm (6-1) met sixth-seeded Reichenbach Oil (2-5), and fourth-seeded Catty Corner (3-4) met fifth-seeded The Tribe (3-4).

At North Catasauqua, the regular season concluded Tuesday with its final slate of games.

The league’s quarterfinals will begin Thursday (July 2) with the top two seeds receiving byes from the 10-team league. The top two seeds along with the fourth- and fifth-seeded teams will begin play July 6.

North Catty’s third through 10th seeds will open the playoffs July 2 with number-seven meeting number-10, number-three facing number-six, and number-eight squaring off against number-nine.

In the latest released North Catty standings, Curmaci Dental (6-2) was the top seed followed by Team Escobar (6-2), Expert Auto Timing (6-2), B’Town Blazers (5-2), Pammer Chiropractic (5-2), Jay Gilbert and Family (5-4), Bet On Us (3-5), AAO (2-6), Palermo’s Italian Grill (1-6), and GR Electric (0-8).

Former Whitehall standouts Luke Keppel and Zach Gilbert are the top two scorers in the North Catty League with Gilbert, averaging 19.3 and 17.7 points respectively. Keppel plays for Jay Gilbert and Family, and Gilbert plays for Team Escobar.

Current Catasauqua players Zay Vaz and Aalani Nix are the leading scorers for GR Electric, averaging 15.1 and 13.6 points respectively. Former Catasauqua player and current Saucon Valley head football coach Anthony Brinkley is averaging 10.7 points for Curmaci Dental.

In the latest standings of the Lehigh Valley High School Summer Basketball League, Catasauqua’s team is 3-6.
