Tigers win three straight games

Through much of the regular season, the pattern for the Northwestern Lehigh boys lacrosse team was win two and lose one. It’s first three-game win streak came in the final week of the regular season.

The Tigers picked up a 10-7 win over Southern Lehigh, a 12-4 win against Saucon Valley and a 10-8 victory over Moravian Academy in the season finale.

The Tigers (12-6) open play in districts next Tuesday at Emmaus with the championship set for Thursday at Lehigh University. As the number two seed in Class 2A, Northwestern will have a rematch with Moravian Academy in the semifinals.

Tyler Kaas scored five goals and added three assist in the win against Saucon Valley. He also scored three goals and had an assist against the Lions and added an assist in the week-opening win over the Spartans. Grayson Christman also had five goals against the Panthers and scored eight goals in the three games.

Kendall Wikert added a pair of hat tricks during the week. The first came against Southern Lehigh when he scored three times and added an assist. He wrapped up the week with three goals against Moravian Academy. Brayden Uricchio added a hat trick of his own with three goals in the win against Southern Lehigh and then came back with two goals and an assist against Moravian Academy.

Trey Snyder has been an assist machine for Northwestern as he dished off six assists in the three wins and added four goals of his own.

Defense has been a mainstay for Northwestern Lehigh this season. Opponents have been able to average just 7.7 goals per game against the Tigers. The seven-goal mark is an important one for Northwestern with the Tigers posting a 10-0 record when they hold their opponents to seven or less goals.

Goalie Dane Kauker recorded 15 saves in the 12-4 win against the Panthers this past week and has been strong in goal all season long. Kauker is also helped by the defensive unit in front of him as they shut down attackers many times before they can even put a shot on goal.

Not only is the district semifinal game with Moravian Academy (10-7) a rematch of a late-season game, but it’s also a rematch of last year’s semifinal. In that version, the Lions eliminated Northwestern in a 10-2 game.

The semifinal round is a replay of the matchups from a season ago. In addition to the Lions and Tigers rivalry, Southern Lehigh (10-8) and Allentown Central Catholic (12-4) will play in the other semifinal. The Vikings were District 11 2A champions last season.
