EHS falls in softball semi

The Emmaus High School softball team had one of its best regular seasons in recent memory in 2026, finishing 18-3 overall and 16-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, Emmaus finished as the only undefeated team in the conference and earned the top seed in the EPC playoffs.

Emmaus defeated the eighth seed, Liberty, 3-2 in the quarterfinal round last Thursday afternoon.

Things were trending well as they looked toward facing off against the fourth seed, Stroudsburg, in the semifinal round this past Monday night at Pates Park in Allentown.

Although Emmaus had gotten the better of the Mounties 6-3 last month in their only meeting during the regular season, Stroudsburg got revenge Monday, ending the Hornets’ run at EPCs with a 5-0 victory.

In the victory over the Hurricanes, Emmaus had to hold on to survive in the one-run game as Liberty gave them all they could handle.

After two scoreless innings to begin the game, the Green Hornets got on the scoreboard with a two-run bottom of the second inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Abby Derr.

Derr accounted for all three runs for her team and was 2-for-3 at the plate, as she also earned an RBI on a groundball fielder’s choice in the fifth that put her team ahead 3-0.

Brianna Gitski, Julia DeFanti, Calise Eiswerth and Haleigh Gigliotti each had a hit and Eiswerth, Gigliotti and Taylor Hauver all scored a run.

Mari Eiswerth was dealing all game inside the circle and took a no-hitter into the final inning, but the Hurricanes hit a two-run home run to bring up the tying run to the plate, but Eiswerth was able to close the door from there.

She allowed just the two runs on two hits to earn the win.

Emmaus will now look towards the District 11 6A playoffs next week where it will be one of the top two seeds and host a first-round playoff game.
