LIBERTY HS NEWS By Ella Sherman
As the year is coming to a close, The Hurricanes are looking back on an exciting year, from athletic to academic success this final update will reflect on recent accomplishments of the school community.
LHSTC’s production of “Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella”closed April 18. The show had a successful run, with an incredibly talented cast including standout performances from Emma Hartzell (‘27, Ella) and Josayra Martinez (‘26, Fairy Godmother)
Senior Cameron Dunham (‘26) recently placed first at PMEA District 10 Choir, and on April 24, he attended the state-level festival. He placed second overall in the Tenor 2 section. Congrats, Cam!
The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival was March 7. This year, Liberty was able to grow its team and send six kids to perform scenes from Shakespeare plays. LHS won a Team Performance award. A special congratulations is due to Andrew Bays (‘26) and Erika Broesicke (‘26) who won an “Excellence in Duo” award for their scene from As You Like It.
Liberty has several students that are extremely involved across several activities. Erika Broesicke happens to be one of those students. Shortly after her standout performance at the Shakespeare Festival, she started lacrosse season and her and her teammates have hit the ground running.
On April 23 for the first time in program history, they defeated the Parkland Trojans (11-8) During the game, Broesicke had 15 saves.
“The Parkland win was a real turning point for us,” Brosicke said. “After going toe-to-toe with Emmaus, it really started to click with the team that we had the talent to make history, and the Parkland game just solidified that for us. It gave us proof of what our coaches were telling us all along: As long as we play together as a team rather than individuals and lift each other up, we can come out on top.”
The Parkland game led to Broesicke being nominated for Morning Call Athlete of the week, which she ended up winning for the girls’ category.
“As for being Athlete of the week, it is an incredible honor and a dream that took a lot of effort both on and off the field,” she said. “Thank you to everyone who voted, it was a team effort!”
Every year, Liberty and Freedom go toe to toe competing for a bell. Whichever team wins the most games against the other school within the year gets to keep the bell for the following year. With the Cane’s win at the track meet last Wednesday, Liberty has secured the bell for another year.
Graduation will be held June 5 at Stabler Arena. Follow @liberty_hs_basd on Instagram for updates over the summer.
