LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Leonzi reaches career milestone

Following a season-opening loss to Easton back on March 19, the Parkland High School girls lacrosse team had to wait a full week to play its next game after two postponements due to weather.

When they finally got back on the field, the Trojans earned their first victory of the 2024 regular season, defeating Saucon Valley 20-11 in a nonconference game on March 26. Last Thursday, Parkland had its home opener and was taken down by Garnet Valley 17-4 in another nonconference game. Two days later, the Trojans got back to winning ways with nonconference win over Exeter Township, 15-14.

Against the Jaguars, the Trojans had a slow first half as they were down 4-0 after the first quarter and then 11-1 at halftime. From that point on, it was tough to make a comeback.

Gigi Leonzi led the team with two goals. Both Lila Temchatin and Anna Sensinger scored one goal with the latter adding an assist. Hailey Smith finished with 12 saves. Garnet Valley had 10 different goal scorers, led by Ryann Razzano and Mia Raucci, who both tallied four.

It was a back-and-forth game in the victory against the Eagles and Parkland was able to hold on in the end to a lead that they held for most of the game.

Leonzi recorded a game-high nine goals, tallying her 200th career goal in the game. Sensinger and Temchatin both finished with two goals and Temchatin added an assist. Addison Winfield recorded one goal and two assists and Milla Hahn contributed one goal and one assist. Smith made 11 saves.

Parkland, which improved to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference, had a home game against Moravian Academy this past Wednesday and then host Council Rock North on Saturday.
