St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, invites visitors to sign up for a half-hour prayer vigil from 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Good Friday, March 29, in the sanctuary.

Resources for prayer will be provided.

The Good Friday worship service will begin at 7:30 p.m. with readings from the passion narrative in the gospel of Mark and extinguishing of candles.

The service will conclude with darkening of the sanctuary for several minutes.

On March 30, members of the community are invited for a prayer vigil from 9 a.m. to noon.

Easter day begins with a sunrise service at 7 a.m. in the church which proceeds to the cemetery for a portion of time, weather permitting.

Breakfast will be served in Fellowship Hall at 8 a.m.

The morning continues with worship at 10:15 a.m.

During the opening hymns, worshippers may take flowers forward to decorate the cross as a reminder that the emblem of suffering and pain has been transformed into a symbol of new life through the resurrection.
