LIBERTY HS NEWS - Blooming season

March was full of accomplishments for Liberty HS, from athletics to performing arts, though the most impressive of all regarded the district and regional champion in girl’s wrestling, Gracie Haflich.

Haflich, a junior at LHS, just a year ago fought for the very idea of a girl’s wrestling team at Liberty. After a good start in her sophomore season, holding a record of 7-5, Haflich took off in her junior season, finishing with an astounding 30-7 record.

During her junior season, Haflich became the first girl in school history to win districts and regionals for wrestling, as well as placing seventh in the state. When asked what source of encouragement she would give young women getting into wrestling, she said, “Don’t be scared to do it. You’re fully capable of doing just as much as anyone else could.”

Be sure to visit the “LHS Broadcasting” page on YouTube to watch our brand-new interview with Haflich, as well as a feature article from Liberty’s brand-new paper issue coming soon.

From March 21 to 23, LHS performed its spring musical, “The Music Man,” to acclaim from any and all in its attendance. Under the direction of Julie Wydrzynski (Choraliers teacher at LHS) the show provided an amazing blend of laugh out-loud humor, beautiful set design, and excellent casting.

After boasting to bring a new culture of music to town, Harold Hill, played by senior Connor Dinwiddie, makes a stop in River City, Iowa, though his faults will quickly catch up to him. After falling in love with the town’s librarian, Marian, played by junior Hana Mohamed, and forming strong bonds with townspeople, Hill must decide if his life of charades outweighs his new found love for River City.

Make sure to follow @liberty_hs_theatre for updates on the shows for the 2024-25 school year.
