State police at Bethlehem - crashes

State police at the Bethlehem barracks reported the following:

• Nelson O. Leclerc Matias, 35, of Allentown, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 2:16 a.m. Jan. 22 on Mauch Chunk Road in North Whitehall Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the Northern Valley ambulance service to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. The severity of his injuries is unknown, police said.

They said he was driving a 2021 Kia Forte at a high rate of speed when the car failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection with Cedar Crest Boulevard. Police said Matias turned left at such a high rate of speed the vehicle rolled over.

Police said Matias was cited.

• Police were summoned to a parking lot incident at 3:07 a.m. Jan. 20 on Main Street in North Whitehall Township.

They said a 2002 Harley Davidson was parked in a stall in the lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle whose driver left the scene.

• Christopher T. Holloman, 27, of Walnutport, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 5:17 a.m. Jan. 12 on Route 145 in North Whitehall Township.

Police said he was operating a 2020 Ford F150 at an unsafe speed southbound when he lost control of the truck due to an ice patch while negotiating a curve. Police said he swerved into the northbound lane and traversed off the right side of the road, striking an embankment and a utility pole.

• Two vehicles were involved in a crash at 11:45 a.m. Jan. 15 on Route 145 in North Whitehall Township. No one was injured.

Police did not provide the details of the incident but identified one of the drivers as Kayle S. Schmoyer, 35, of Slatington, who was operating a 2018 Subaru Legacy. They said the driver of the other vehicle, a 2023 Kia Soul, is unknown.

• Police said a passenger was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 2:49 p.m. Jan. 6 at the intersection of Route 873 and Oakland Avenue in Washington Township had minor injuries.

They said Mason B. McGowan, 22, of Slatington, was not transported from the scene after the incident.

The crash involved vehicles driven by Jonathan K. Estrada, 39, and Donald M. McGowan, 56, both of Slatington.

• Jose Etanislao-Gonzalez, 59, of Reading for failure to drive at a safe speed after a one-vehicle crash at 11:54 a.m. Jan. 16 on Route 309 in Heidelberg Township.

Police said he was driving a 215 Kia Sedona too fast for snowy conditions when the vehicle spun counterclockwise into the northbound lane, went off the road and struck a utility pole.

Police said the vehicle sustained moderate damages and was operable. They said the rear tire tread depths of the vehicle was a contributing factor to the vehicle sliding out of control.

• Charles L. Mason, 39, of Germansville, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 8:02 a.m. Jan. 17 on Old Post Rad in North Whitehall Township.

Police said he was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram truck east when it hit an icy patch in the roadway crashed off the eastbound lane.

The vehicle sustained disabling damages and needed to be towed from the scene, police said.

• Police said the driver of a vehicle that crashed at 4 p.m. Jan. 18 on Ridge Road in Heidelberg Township fled the scene.

They said the driver failed to drive at

a safe speed, causing the vehicle to strike a fence at 5895 Ridge Road. They said the impact was so severe it caused debris to go about 30-40 feet into a field.
