Macungie Minstrelaires present ‘Singing is Out of This World’

The Macungie Minstrelaires present “Singing is Out of This World” 8 p.m. Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 and 2 and 8 p.m. Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 at Lower Macungie Middle School, 6299 Lower Macungie Road, Macungie. Trick-or-treating in Lower Macungie Township will be held 6-9 p.m. Oct. 31. Some homeowner’s associations may have set alternate dates for their neighborhoods.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon Nov. 1 and 15 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. Tickets are required for the Nov. 1 meeting. Christmas dinner tickets are on sale through Nov. 15.

The Ancient Oaks Womens Organization will meet 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at St. Paul’s UCC in Trexlertown. The women will be meeting to make a winter arrangement. Bring wire cutters. All are welcome.

The next meeting for the Lower Lehigh AARP will be held noon Nov. 3 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall. Dues are payable in October and November; bring both cards. Tickets for the Christmas party Dec. 1 are available through Nov. 18. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

Zion Lehigh Lutheran Church, 8269 Spring Creek Road, Alburtis will have a holiday craft bazaar 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 5. There will be crafts, a basket raffle, bake sale and Grandma’s Attic. Homemade food is available for eat in or carry out.

There will be a Stuff the Truck event 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 5 at the community center parking lot. Habitat LV ReStore will collect kitchen/bathroom cabinets, newer working appliances, furniture, lighting fixtures, hardware, windows, plumbing supplies and more.

The 12th annual craft/vendor fair will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 19 at the community center, 3450 Brookside Road. Over 100 crafters and vendors will be participating. Food is available 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There is a free shuttle from the parking lot to the door.

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners and staff are holding the 17th annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who won’t be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and phone cards will be accepted at the community center 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through Nov. 23. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center.

The community center will collect children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to local area children. A large receptacle is located in the lobby through Dec. 31.

Open gym has returned at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children. For more information, go to http://www.lowermac.com/recreation/activities-programs/. Classes include adult yoga and dance, baking classes, Kindermusik, Safesitter and children’s sport classes.

The community center is open to the public while following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The center will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Yard waste center hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday through Oct. 31. The hours for November and December are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Curbside leaf collection begins the week of Oct. 17 and runs through Dec. 2.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The book drop is open 24/7. The library will be closed Nov. 24-26 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Outdoor Sunny Day Story time for ages 2-5 years will be held 10-10:30 a.m. Oct. 19 and 26 and Nov. 2, 9 and 16 on the library’s front lawn. The story time will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.

There will be Books & Babies Story time for ages 0-30 months 10:15-11 a.m. Oct. 21 and 28 and Nov. 4 and 11.

Wigglers Story time for ages 2-3 years will be held 10:30-11:15 a.m. Oct. 20 and 27 and Nov. 3, 10 and 17.

There will be a Build It! Block Party for ages 2-6 years 10:30-11:30 a.m. Nov. 21.

Builders Club for grades K-5 will be held 6:30-7:15 p.m. Nov. 7. This is an in-library building session with blocks, Legos or building sets.

The Builders Club: Homeschool Edition will be held 2-3 p.m. Nov. 15.

November Grab & Go Activity Kits are available beginning Nov. 1.

Creation Station Crafts for ages 2 and up will be held 10:30-11:30 a.m. Nov. 12 and 6:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 14. Please register for only one session.

“Masterpiece Focus: Miss Scarlet and the Duke” will meet 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 20 to discuss the Masterpiece series and the history of popular literary lady detectives.

“Mazel Tov: A Jewish Celebration” will be held noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 23 to celebrate with Jewish food, klezmer music, storytelling and games. There will also be a Yiddish language session. Guest speakers will share stories about the Jewish immigrant experience and the Jewish community in the Lehigh Valley.

Autumn Jackson from the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles will discuss “The Past and Future of Electric Vehicles” 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 1.

Books & Beyond will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 14 for adults to discuss books, music, movies, TV, travel and life.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 to noon Nov. 2 is “Plainsong” by Kent Haruf. The book for Dec. 7 is “West With Giraffes: A Novel.” The book club meets virtually.

The Friends of the Library will hold its fall book sale 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 18-19 in the Lower Macungie Library. Friends’ Preview Night is 5-7:30 p.m. Nov. 17. Join the Friends that night and purchase books before the weekend crowds. There will be a bag sale 2:30-4:30 p.m. Nov. 19. All proceeds from the sale benefit the library.
