EHS girls volleyball stays perfect in EPC

The Emmaus High School girls volleyball team has had a strong start to its 2021 season, particularly in league play. That success continued last Friday evening as the Green Hornets took care of Stroudsburg in straight sets by scores of 25-9, 25-21, 25-12 in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match at Emmaus High School.

It was the third consecutive victory for Emmaus and the third win in straight sets. The Green Hornets (11-4-2 overall, 9-0 EPC) remained undefeated in the league.

“It’s been a good start, but I want to see us keep it going at a high level,” said Hornet head coach Brianne Giangiobbe. “We’ve had a nice week, but we have a tough week coming up so we need to keep up this momentum.”

The victory over the Mountaineers capped off a strong week in which Emmaus also took down EPC opponents Central Catholic and Liberty.

“This week showed that we can play with anybody and be successful,” Giangiobbe said. “We lost to Liberty earlier this season in a tournament, so to come back and beat them this time around in a conference match was great for us.”

Ava Holden and Abby Schweitzer led the way offensively for the Green Hornets, tallying 10 kills each against the Mounties, and adding one block. Holden also had four service aces and four digs. Lily Hulbert finished with nine kills, four aces and two digs. Kassidy Hallman recorded 23 assists and three digs. Chayce Perna had 12 assists and four digs for Emmaus.

“I thought the play from all of our contributors overall was very good,” said Giangiobbe. “It was a very balanced effort from everyone and they all contributed to the victory. That’s what you want to see as a coach.”

Emmaus defeated Southern Lehigh in a nonconference match last Monday. The Green Hornets square off with rival Parkland on Thursday this week.
