Brandon Camire, an electrifying runner, has been named as the East Penn Press boys Athlete of the Year.

The recent graduate proved to be the spark plug that ignited the Emmaus football team’s offense during the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Camire’s speed, quickness and shiftiness made him among the best, if not the best, running backs in the East Penn Conference during his senior season.

The 5-foot, 10-inch, 170-pounder’s resume builder is blazing speed. Like a flash off the mark, Camire has been timed in the 40-yard-dash at 4.4. There is an unmistakable style to Camire’s running, a trademark grace. His motions are fluid, so fluid that looks as though he could balance a bowl of soup on his head while moving with the ball. One has to marvel at Camire’s ability to cut at full speed.

“He’s a workhorse for his size. He’s a tough runner,” said Emmaus coach Harold Fairclough said of Camire last season. “He’s explosive and can score from anywhere on the field.”

Running, receiving, returning kickoff and returning punts, the name of the game was get the ball to Bradon Camire.

Camire has more going for him athletically than being a speeding bullet. He’s benched up to 265 pounds and squats in the 365-pound neighborhood, with a vertical jump of 31 inches.

During his junior season in 2019, Camire emerged into a star, gaining 1,617 yards and scoring 24 touchdowns while averaging 6.7 per carry and returning one kickoff for a touchdown.

Last year in the COVID-shortened campaign, Camire ran 86 times gaining 556 yards for average rush of 6.5 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns, plus a kickoff return for a score. In the Hornets’ season opener, Camire blitzed William Allen for no less than five touchdowns.

“I like his ability to take it to the house,” the coach said last season. “He’s a very explosive runner with great speed.”

Camire helped Emmaus go 5-0 during the 2020 regular season. He will continue his football career at Delaware Valley.
