Salisbury CM team learned valuable lessons in 2021

The 2021 Salisbury Falcon Connie Mack season ended two weeks ago after a season of progress for coach Dennis Grejda’s players, despite several disappointing results.

A 13-3 loss to East Stroudsburg dropped the Falcons’ record to 2-16. While the record was not what Grejda had hoped, the team did earn valuable playing experience and training in their quest to become better baseball players.

For example, Connie Mack has historically used Major League Baseball and PIAA regulation pitcher’s mound to home plate - 60-feet, 6-inches - with a 10-inch high rubber and 90-feet bases.

“The vast majority of our team has played at these dimensions in their recent spring junior varsity and varsity high school experience,” said Grejda. “With us placing our players at certain defensive positions, they do well in handling the increased distances from prior years of play.”

This shows plays where they need to develop additional strength.

“They understand that mechanics and building arm strength have become more important now than ever for all positions - pitcher, catcher, infield and outfield,” the coach added.

In the loss to East Stroudsburg, the Falcons were competitive through three innings with a 1-1 tie. Things began to fall apart in the fourth, as East Stroudsburg scored twice and added four more runs in the fifth and six in the sixth to blow it open. Brady Leiner has six strikeouts over 3.2 innings, while Sean McClain and Luis Gonzalez each had two hits.
