LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Fundraiser to benefit Third Street Alliance through Dec. 18

With 2020 and COVID-19 hindering the activities of clubs and extracurricular activities it is important to celebrate what we do have and what is still possible with proper preparation. This week we have some “Salisbury Happenings” as our wonderful athletic director, Monica Deeb likes to put it.

Salisbury Theatre Club held a scene workshop class in hopes of expanding their audience and bringing English class material to life.

Also, G.I.V.E., (Get Involved Value Everyone), a community service club at Salisbury High School, is having its annual necessities drive through Dec. 18.

Salisbury Theatre entered this year determined to reach a wider audience and continue to improve their media and performance. This all seemed impossible during the lockdown; however, the cast and directors were able to come together to create art during the pandemic and plan for the coming school year.

Salisbury Theatre is now associated with the new theatre club. There is currently a stereotype surrounding theater, one that is hindering the growth of the group and its communal support; this is where theatre club comes into play.

Theatre club held its first scene workshop class Dec. 6. The class was divided into three groups: scene and costume design, classical theatre where they analyzed and acted a scene from “Twelfth Night” by Shakespeare and contemporary theatre where participants analyzed and acted a scene from “Thor and Loki.” Students who attended and were active participants received extra credit in their respective English class.

The purpose of this workshop was to expand the theater’s audience beyond fellow art enthusiasts and break a stigma to allow other students to get involved in a safe and comfortable environment.

G.I.V.E. is holding its annual necessities drive. All donations will be given to Third Street Alliance, specifically the women and children shelter in Easton.

This is G.I.V.E.’s largest annual fundraiser; if you have the means to donate, please do! Donations go a long way to provide for the administration, parents and children who rely on this shelter for their needs.

Simple donations mean a lot to these families especially during the holiday season. Immediate needs include:

•Fleece blankets

•Disinfectant wipes and sprays

•Baby and kids hygiene products

•Lice treatment solution

•Mops

•Brooms

•Empty spray bottles

•Hand sanitizer

•Garbage bags

•Dental floss

•Baby wipes, cups, bibs, toothbrushes and toothpaste

•First aid kits

•Slippers socks (adult and children)

•Underwear for girls and boys (2T and up)

•Underwear for women (size 5 and up)

•Office and craft supplies

•Additional cleaning materials

•Gift cards

The drive will be held through Dec. 18. Donation drop off will be held at the high school 3-6 p.m. Dec. 18. Let’s come together as a community to help those in need this holiday season.

Both “Salisbury Happenings” were coordinated and are directed by Salisbury’s own students.

The G.I.V.E. drive is brought to you by Neveah Robinson and Lindsay Rapp.

The theatre workshop was led by Margaret Carl, Eliza Weiner, Michael Judge and myself.

That’s all for this week; stay tuned for more student news.
