Jack C. Norbeck

Jack C. Norbeck, 79, of Coplay, died Oct. 19, 2020, in his home.

Born in Greensburg, he was a son of the late Oscar E. and Ann (Teets) Norbeck.

He was in the U.S. Army in Germany during peacetime.

He was a clerk at Sears, Whitehall Mall, for many years before he retired.

He was a published photographer and writer. Known as “The Steam General,” he authored the ”Encyclopedia of American Steam Traction Engines.” His library exhibit “The Great Steam Era” was seen in all seven continents. His work was featured in Draft Horse Journal and Engineers and Engines Magazine. He founded Norbeck Research in 1978. He represented the United States as an ambassador of the International Order of Merit.

He was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Whitehall.

He is survived by a brother, Barry W. Norbeck with Mary of Locust Grove, Va.; a nephew, Daniel W. Norbeck with Colleen of Saugatuck, Mich.; and a niece, Melinda A. Norbeck of Philadelphia.

Services will be private.
