Autumn sights at Canal St. Park

Walkers find beauty, serenity on D&L Trail

Canal Street Park, adjacent to the Lehigh River in Northampton, is a fall wonderland. The beginning of November found the park covered with leaves, leaves and more leaves. Various kinds of trees and undergrowth line the park on the Lehigh River side, and other beautiful trees planted by the borough are found on the side of the D&L Trail that runs through the park.

Tall, majestic oak trees have browning leaves at the top, and the colors change to red, orange, yellow and brown as your eyes travel down the tree line. Many other trees have shed their leaves, filling the area beneath with a blanket of color.

Mark Prickler, formerly of Northampton Borough and a 1970s Northampton High School graduate now residing in Neffs, said he enjoys walking through Canal Street Park. When he walks the D&L Trail in the park, his mind drifts to his happy younger years in Northampton.

Rita Seaman, who now resides in Northampton Borough, said she often walks on the D&L Trail because of the serenity and peaceful ambience, particularly during this time of year. She noted she loves the uniquely fall fragrance she encounters with the Lehigh River on one side and the main park on the other side.

Along the trail in the park, there were dozens of Canada geese floating in the Lehigh River, honking away. A number of coal-black crows flying high above the trees were constantly cawing as they landed atop some large branches.

A couple of cute squirrels were running around, perhaps seeking nuts to bury for the upcoming winter.

The weather was great, with the temperature a little above the average, with a mild breeze. The sky was mostly sunny, and the sun felt warm.

This kind of day was a wonderful, relaxing autumn experience at Canal Street Park.
