Trexler Business Center, Movie Tavern approved

During the Oct. 6 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, the Trexler Business Center was approved by a vote of 3-2.

Commissioners Brian Higgins, Benjamin Galiardo and Douglas Brown voted in favor of this development. Commissioners Ron R. Beitler and Ronald W. Beitler voted against it.

Ron R. Beitler said there were changes he was just given and could not make a decision without going over the details of the changes. Ronald W. Beitler had concern for the unnecessary building of a road on the other side of Hamilton Boulevard which connects with a new traffic light leading into the business center and the traffic impact fee issue.

The business center will have six buildings and will include the Movie Tavern, small retail building and a stand-alone restaurant. The tower for the Movie Tavern was reduced by 10 feet – from 60 feet to 50 feet. It will be located behind Walmart and also bordered by the Shepherd Hills Golf Course, the Texas Roadhouse and the animal hospital.

Five sycamore trees will be cut down but will be replaced later.

In other business, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has awarded Lower Macungie Township with a grant of over $137,000 for the community’s efforts in recycling.

Work will begin on the Hosensack-Wescosville power line. This line runs about 17 miles through several townships including Upper and Lower Macungie townships, South Whitehall, Upper Saucon, Upper and Lower Milford and the city of Allentown. The work will include replacing existing poles with taller steel poles.

The realignment of Schoeneck Road is underway. Schoeneck Road will close at some point in the near future with a detour planned.

The dog park will open Oct. 15. The key fob entry system will not be operational until mid-November.

A resident complained about a visibility problem at Krocks Road and Fairway Drive. There is a tree blocking the intersection’s visibility. Township Manager Bruce Fosselman is aware of the problem and said “It is not a tree problem. It’s a speeding problem.” The police will be made aware of the problem.

Lower Macungie Township has been awarded an outdoor recreation award for Camp Olympic.
