Lower Macungie commissioners approve pedestrian crossing request, vehicle purchase
Lower Macungie Township commissioners approved a request at their July 16 meeting to begin the process of seeking Pennsylvania Department of Transportation approval for pedestrian crossing signage on Spring Creek Road at Heritage Drive.
Commissioners also approved Resolution 2026-27, authorizing a 40-month agreement with Infradebt for information technology services at a cost of $8,469.
Resolution 2026-28 authorizes the township to apply for a grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to fund the installation, repair and improvement of ADA-compliant ramps in older neighborhoods. The project is intended to bring ramps into compliance with PennDOT and Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
Commissioners approved Resolution 2026-29, authorizing the purchase of a used vehicle from Hanover Township and appropriating funds for the acquisition. The township had initially planned to purchase a new vehicle but opted for the used vehicle when it became available.
The vehicle, a 2025 Ford Explorer with 37,000 miles, will be purchased for $35,000. Township Board President Ron Beitler called the purchase “a good move.”
Commissioners also approved the execution of a street vacation agreement for Locust Lane and authorized transmission of the document to the remaining parties for signature.
Community Development Director Vince Tranguch discussed the Shankel subdivision on Mountain Road. The project divides the property into four lots, including 77 acres designated for residential development and a 17-acre conservation easement. A separate easement was established to accommodate a future trail connection.
The conservation easement will preserve open space and natural resources. The township acquired the easement parcel for $1. Beitler praised the arrangement, calling it a “good show of a good citizen.”
The meeting concluded with executive sessions regarding personnel matters, land acquisition and pending litigation.
