District 11 pairings set
The District 11 team wrestling tournament begins Thursday night and we have an unofficial peek at the what the pairings and matchups may look like when wrestling opens at four different venues Stroudsburg, Blue Mountain, Nazareth and Whitehall.
With snow canceling many matches slated for Monday, the power ranking totals should have locked all the teams in place heading into Thursday's opening rounds. Announcements for where teams will be wrestling during Thursday's action were past Press deadlines, but here's how the 3A and 2A brackets should break down.
Action kicks off at each site at 6 p.m. with single elimination bouts, as the winner will move on to take on higher seeds at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.
Once teams get past the opening round, the tournament becomes double-elimination, as wrestling shifts to Freedom High School Saturday morning.
Starting in 3A, Nazareth (8th seed) and Emmaus (9th seed) battle for the right to take on top-seeded Bethlehem Catholic at the top of the bracket.
Fifth-seeded Bangor battles 12th-seeded Pottsville for the chance to take on fourth-seeded Parkland.
Pottsville was not an official entrant as of Monday, but that's where the power point system had them slotted.
Pleasant Valley (6) and Whitehall (11) square off, as the winner faces third-seeded Blue Mountain as we shift to the bottom portion of the 3A bracket.
The leaves second-seeded Freedom awaiting the winner of a tough 7-10 matchup between Easton and Northampton.
In 2A, Saucon Valley is the first-seed and will either face Palisades (8) or Pine Grove (9).
Pine Grove was not officially locked into the ninth seed as of Monday. Northwestern and Wilson would then face each other in a 5-12 matchup, pitting the winner against fourth-seeded Northern Lehigh.
In the bottom portion, Lehighton (6) and Schuylkill Haven (11) face off with the victor taking on North Schuylkill (3).
Second-seeded Tri-Valley then awaits the winner of the 7-10 bout between Notre Dame of Green Pond and Panther Valley.
Once Thursday's bouts are out of the way, wrestling begins at 9 a.m. Saturday with consolation rounds getting under way. Semifinals will start at 10:45 a.m. with another round of consolations kicking off at 12:30 p.m.
Finals for both classes will take place at 5:30 p.m. and if necessary, the true second place match would cap off the weekend of wrestling at 7:30 p.m.
