A 20-year-old man from Bethlehem has died in a one-vehicle crash around 10 p.m. Aug. 14 on Weaversville Road in Allen Township.

Pennsylvania State Police-Troop M, Bethlehem, said Daniel Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of Northampton County Coroner’s Office.

PSP said Gutierrez was driving a 2020 Honda Civic north on Weaversville Road at a high rate of speed when he attempted to travel into the opposite lane of travel to pass multiple vehicles. Police said as the car crested a slight uphill, the driver was apparently unable to see oncoming traffic traveling toward the Civic, at which time he lost control of the car. It crossed back into the northbound, exited the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Following the initial impact, the vehicle continued through a cornfield where it overturned multiple times, coming to rest east of Weaversville Road.

The car was removed from the scene by a local towing service.

In addition to the coroner’s office, police were assisted at the scene by Allen Township Fire Department, Northampton Fire Department, Northampton Regional EMS, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and PPL.

Police said Weaversville Road was closed for about four hours after the crash for investigating purposes.
