Track season ends at states
Allison Horn and Erica Filipovits are best friends, teammates and training partners.
Last week they were also travel buddies as the two made the trip to the PIAA track and field meet, along with Hannah Marth, to Shippensburg University to compete in the two-day meet.
Horn, who qualified for the meet in both the 100 meter hurdles and the triple jump failed to make the finals in the hurdles, but finished ninth in the triple jump with a jump of 37-03.75.
The senior came in to the event as the 18th seed and made it to the finals, which is only the top-10 competitors.
"I'm very happy with how I did today," Horn said. "I was a little intimidated because there were so many good girls in front of me. I was really going for the 37's today, and I pulled it off. So I was really happy with that and the fact that I made it to finals."
Filipovits also failed to qualify for the finals in the girls' AAA 100 meter hurdles as the senior ran a 15.17 in the semi-finals. The last time that qualified for the finals was a 15.04.
Hannah Marth has had a roller coaster of a season with javelin. The Konkrete Kid went through parts of the season just not performing how she would like and her 25th place finish with a throw of 104-01 is one of the times.
"I was not thrilled with my performance. I definitely expected to do better," she said.
With her seed throw being a 129-10, Marth theorized the circus that is the PIAA meet as to one of the reasons for the big drop off.
"I think it was more of the atmosphere. It is so overwhelming to have so much tough competition all in one meet."
Despite the ups and downs that Marth, Filipovits and Horn experienced this season, just like any other track and field athlete does, they all accomplished something this season. For Horn, she was able to leave her last high school meet with something to remember.
"It was really cool to be able to compete with the best in the state," she said. "And I only started doing this last year, so I'm really happy that I made it and set a personal best."
