LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Girls wait another day

The Northampton-Parkland game, slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Allentown's Patriots Park was postponed until the same time Wednesday due to thunder, lightning, and pouring rain. The game now falls past Press deadlines.

The Kids-Trojan game will follow the other District 11 semifinal between Pleasant Valley and Bangor.

"I hope it was a good omen," said Kevin Mann late Tuesday afternoon after he got a phone call that Northampton's District 11 softball semifinal with Parkland was postponed.

"It took us three days to beat Liberty (in a District 11 quarterfinal) because of the weather," said Mann.

Northampton (17-6) was looking forward to the Kids' fourth game with unbeaten Trojans (21-0). Parkland blanked the Kids three times: 5-0 and 7-0 in the regular season, and 10-0 in a Lehigh Valley Conference semifinal.

Northampton, seeded fifth in districts knocked off Liberty 8-7 Saturday in 10 innings.

This game was originally scheduled for last Thursday but was postponed by rain after both teams got to the Moravian College field. Play started Friday and Northampton rallied to take a 7-5 lead in the seventh inning when the game was suspended because of bad weather.

It resumed Saturday and Liberty scored twice in the bottom of the seventh. Then after two scoreless innings, the international tie-breaker rule came into force, which means the inning starts with a runner on second.

Taylor Kerbacher, who made the last out for Northampton in the ninth, was the runner and moved to third on Bri Dalton's groundout and scored on another grounder, this one hit by Auria Enright.

Liberty started the bottom of the 10th with Emily Cecchini on second and pinch-runner Brandi Grello got to third on a sacrifice bunt. But, Northampton reliever Gillian Muthard got the final two outs on an infield popup and a fly ball to left.

So, Tuesday's rainout gave Northampton another day to get a shot at repeating as the District 11 4A champion.
