Tennis closes out season
The Northampton boys tennis team closed out their 2014 season with an 8-8 overall record (6-5 within the league).
Northampton finished with a mirror image of their 2013 season record and placed seventh in the league overall.
In one of their final contests for the season, the team claimed a victory over Whitehall on April 25. Northampton's Tyler Nicholas led the charge for Northampton's singles winning 6-4, 7-6.
Northampton's Corey Cowitch also added to the Northampton victory by winning both of his matches 6-2, 6-3. As has been the case several times this season, Northampton dominated doubles play and bested Whitehall in all four matchups: Nick Bohorquez and Frank Zamadics (8-2), Justin Burger and Andre Serensits (6-4, 6-1), Kevin Kunkle and Ross Miller (6-2, 6-1), Zach Miller and John Yeaw (6-2, 6-0).
Overall, Northampton claimed a 6-1 win over the Zephs.
Northampton moved on the face Nazareth April 29 and fell to Nazareth 7-0, but Northampton's Coach Kim Davis is still very proud of the effort his team has put forth this year.
"This season turned out to be a very pleasant surprise - the team is a very cohesive group," Davis said.

The Kids had two doubles teams reach the District 11 tournament: Andrew Serensits and Justin Burger lost in the opening round to Nazareth's Ferraro and Palmeri 6-4, 6-3. Tyler Nicholas and Thomas Reinhard fell to Southern Lehigh's Renner and Kohler 6-2, 6-0.
Nicholas was also part of the singles tournament a few weeks ago. He won his opening round match against Eric Garcia of Dieruff 6-1, 6-3 before falling to Jon White of Pleasant Valley, who would go on to advance to the semifinals. White knocked off Nicholas 6-0, 6-4.
