N. Whitehall Twp. recycling center taking tires April 1

North Whitehall Township Secretary Brenda Norder announced at the beginning of the supervisors meeting, tires will not be accepted at the recycling center until April 1.

She also noted a request for bids was advertised for diesel fuel and gasoline.

Lehigh County Tax Claim Bureau requested exoneration from payment of township taxes for several properties.

The properties listed were: 4444 Kohler Drive, 1037 Aspen St., 1044 Birch St., 1017 Birch St., 1083 Cedar St., 1088 Cedar St., and 1024 Cedar St.

These were all mobile homes that were either demolished or removed from their lots and the owners cannot be found.

Supervisors voted to exonerate these properties.

Members of the recreation board requested to have their meeting dates changed.

Their bylaws require they meet every other month. They wanted the bylaws amended so they could meet quarterly.

The board approved this request.

Supervisors also made two yearly allocations.

The Ironton Rail-Trail group will receive $500, while the Upper Lehigh Historical Society will receive $2,000 toward the Schneck House.

Township Manager Jeff Bartlett's report centered around snow removal.

Township employees have been threatened by some residents over snow removal.

He said during snow removal, all vehicles should be removed from the roadway.

The township has the authority to have the vehicles towed if necessary and sidewalks must be shoveled.

If it is impossible to remove the ice or snow, the sidewalk must be cindered or salted.

Bartlett said he receives anonymous, threatening phone calls almost daily concerning snow removal.

Bartlett has distributed copies of the sidewalk ordinance to residents.

Kevin Schmidt of The Neffs National Bank addressed the board concerning Brook Hill Estates, at Rising Sun and Riverview roads.

As the developer defaulted with this subdivision, the bank took possession and wants to dedicate the road to the township.

Supervisor Ed Pany said the board could not accept the plan without installation of a roadside swale and an easement for the township to access the overland storm sewer.

Schmidt must go back to the project engineer to have him correct this matter prior to dedication of the road.

Under public comment, Roth asked about the status of the Act 537 plan.

Pany stated things were moving forward and the document should be close to being shown to the public.

Resident Ron Roth asked why there is no left turn signal at the new light at the intersection of Sand Spring Road and Route 309.

He said traffic backs up in the southbound lane because left turn traffic must wait until no northbound traffic is coming.

Pany alleged the Penn-DOT study was flawed and did not take into account all the variables.

The question was raised with PennDOT prior to construction but PennDOT said the left turn signal was not warranted.

Pany said the township will try again.

Resident Tom Farrington issued a complaint about the noise emanating from the skating rink at the Family Fun Center on Independence Drive

He wants the township to look into the matter and amend the ordinance if necessary.

He claims loud music is heard after 11 p.m.

Pany said noise levels are measured at the property line and if the sound meets the decibel levels in the ordinance, nothing can be done.

Resident Thomas Van Vreedee wanted to know the status of the Strawberry Acres plan.

Bartlett replied the application, as presented, was denied as being incomplete.

The sewage question was not addressed so the plan will not be on the agenda until the requirements are met.
