Classic GM vehicles fill Macungie Memorial Park

The Keystone State Chapter of the Pontiac-Oakland Club International hosted the 47th annual General Motors on Display event at Macungie Memorial Park June 7.

The annual event featured hundreds of General Motors cars, trucks and commercial vehicles, along with a flea market offering automotive parts, memorabilia and collectibles.

Visitors spent the day viewing vehicles from multiple decades of General Motors history, ranging from classic Corvettes and muscle cars to restored trucks and specialty vehicles. Organizers emphasized the event’s relaxed atmosphere, with no judging or trophies awarded. Dash plaques were presented to the first 100 registered vehicles.

The show grounds filled with rows of brightly colored automobiles as enthusiasts shared stories, restoration experiences and technical knowledge with fellow hobbyists and spectators. Food service was available throughout the day, with breakfast offerings in the morning and lunch available beginning 11 a.m.

Among the featured vehicles were a 1964 Chevrolet Corvette convertible, a 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS El Camino and a 1971 Chevrolet El Camino. The event drew participants and visitors from throughout the region to enjoy the display of General Motors heritage.

Inside Memorial Hall, Pink Pumpkins Coins 4 Chemo conducted a cash bingo and basket raffle fundraiser. Founded in 2014 by DeeAna Bedics following her own cancer treatment experience, the Northampton-based nonprofit assists cancer patients through the Prager Patient Assistance Fund and provides support for food, household expenses, pet care and other needs.

Bedics said approximately 95 people attended the bingo fundraiser.

The annual show is held at Macungie Memorial Park, home of Das Awkscht Fescht, and remains one of the area’s longest-running automotive events dedicated exclusively to General Motors vehicles.
