The Parkland Garden Club held its annual Arbor Day celebration at the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

Honorary or memorial plantings are installed to beautify and enhance the zoo experience for visitors of all ages.

The club has planted 367 trees, bushes, and perennial plants at the zoo since the inception of this project in 1980.

This year plantings were dedicated to honor the memory of Dorothy Miller, the last charter member of the club, which was founded in 1954.

Miller also served as president of Parkland Garden Club from 1956-1958.

Her daughter, Diane Houck, and granddaughters, Megan Suhocki and Carrie Russell, were present for the dedication along with the club members.

A pink lilac bush was selected, as it was a favorite of Dorothy’s.

White azaleas were also planted in memory of Professor Dan Bayak.

The plantings were done to enhance the newly dedicated children’s playground and barnyard area at the zoo.
