Coplay Borough Council, at its June 9 meeting, approved the appointment of Bill Leiner Jr. as mayor, filling the role left vacant by Joseph Bundra, who resigned recently due to health concerns. Interviews for the position were held June 2.
Council President Rick Kern officiated at Leiner’s oath of office.
Leiner had previously served as mayor for 10 years — 1998-2007. This new term will run to Dec. 31, 2027.
“I thank council for the interview and selection as mayor,” Leiner said. “This is the ninth Coplay council I will have worked with. When I stood at the podium to be interviewed [June 2], I looked at the council dais and felt this is a team with diverse work history and education that appears to me to be possibly the best council I will be affiliated.
“I look forward to working with you all,” Leiner said.
In other borough business, council approved Jordan Tumini as gate guard at Coplay’s Parkway Pool. Abigail Kneller and Alex Puleo were approved to serve as lifeguards.
The pool opened for the season June 14 and is open noon-7 p.m.
Borough council approved the resignation of part-time police officer Isaac Jiminez, effective May 27.
Also approved was the offer to Biagio Collandrea as a full-time police officer, pending reference, background and character checks.
Council will meet July 7, for a workshop, and July 14, for a regular meeting. Meetings are held 7 p.m. at borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St.
