Boys get a victory against Whitehall
The Northampton varsity swim team hosted the Whitehall High School on Thursday, Feb. The boys team clinched a win over Whitehall with a final score of 125-42.
Although several of the girl swimmers delivered exceptional performances in their individual races, overall the girls fell short and lost to Whitehall 113-70.
The boys put up some tough competition in last Thursday's meet with strong performances from many of the team's swimmers.
Kyle Iasiello led the boys squad with two individual wins in the 50 yard freestyle event and the 100 yard freestyle. Iasiello also played key roles on two of the three winning relay teams that enabled the boys to sweep the relay events.
Iasiello aided the team's victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay along with teammates Kaden Chambers, Joey Szerencsits and Ben Longacre, and later joined forces with Cory Ninos to clinch first place in the 400 yard freestyle relay along with fellow swimmers Szerencsits and Weber.
Ninos placed first in the individual 100 yard backstroke event and helped capture a win in the 200 yard medley relay (which also included Ben Longacre, Steton Weber and Mike Bauer). Individually, Szerencsits placed first in the 200 yard freestyle event with a time of 1:58.10. Chambers was first to the wall with a time of 5:18.34 in the 500 freestyle and Weber brought home a first place win in the 200 yard medley with a time of 2:18.53.
Northampton's Ben Longacre played a double role in the meet, placing first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.92 and placing first in the diving portion of the meet.
One of the highlights of the Northampton girls performance on Thursday included a first place win in the grueling 500 yard freestyle event. After a race that spans 20 lengths of the Northampton Middle School pool, Northampton swimmer Annalise Christy emerged victorious with a time of 5:47.28. Christy was also a member of the winning quorum for Northampton in the 400 freestyle relay. The relay foursome also included Hannah Peters, Grace Cochrane and Morgan Fehnel and delivered a winning time of 3:59.09.
The Northampton swim team will host Easton on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in a meet that was rescheduled due to expected weather issues later in the week. This meet happens after Press deadlines.
