Kids Bobby Fehr wins Escape the Rock tourney

Bobby Fehr may look back at his Escape the Rock tournament title from last weekend as a moment where things finally clicked.

After posting an impressive 10-3 victory over Zak DePasquale of J.W. Robinson in the 160-pound championship Sunday night, Fehr may be primed for even bigger things as the season progresses to the final third of the calendar.

It marked the first tournament title Fehr has won in his four years at Northampton and the senior hopes that better things are on the way in the coming weeks.

"It was one of the biggest tournaments I've ever won," said Fehr. "It's nice to be back on top of the podium and it's a great feeling."

Fehr was one of three K-Kids to reach the finals, but was the lone victor, as Dan Moran (106) and Michael Scheetz (113) both lost to Bethlehem Catholic counterparts Jake Riegel and Luke Karam respectively.

But with the Kids placing four wrestlers overall, it was a solid sign for the team heading into this week's tilt against Easton [last night] and ahead of this weekend's Konkrete duals.

"I feel like we've improved a lot since the beginning of the season," said Fehr of the status of the team. "Dan [Moran] is becoming more impressive every week and obviously Mike and Zach [Valley] are really talented wrestlers. We want to show everyone that we're one of the top programs, but we're going to have to prove it on the mat."

Moran, a freshman, has shown that he will be a contender once the individual postseason rolls around, despite falling to Riegel by a 2-1 overtime decision.

Scheetz dropped a 5-1 score to Karam, while Zach Valley (126) took third following a 3-1 overtime final over Dallastown's Rodney Sunday.

With the Kids gaining individual success from their foursome above, Fehr is hoping that dropping from 170 to 160 will be the winning formula for him the rest of the way.

"I feel like I just need to keep improving," he said. "It's a nice accomplishment to win the tournament, but I have bigger goals in mind the rest of the year and hopefully I can find myself on top of the podium at states."
