LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Girls expect to be busy down the stretch

There's no such thing as continuity in this year's basketball season.

Just ask the Northampton girls.

It seems they play one game or two, then wham, the next game or two are postponed by the weather.

It happened again this week.

After losing to Central Catholic and bouncing back to down Pocono Mountain West, weather postponed the Konkrete Kids home game with Allen on Tuesday.

Now the Kids, who have already made up games with Holy Redeemer, Emmaus, and Parkland, still have makeup games with Pleasant Valley, Dieruff and Allen.

When the Kids return to action, they will have three straight home games - Pleasant Valley on Thursday, Easton on Friday, and Dieruff on Monday - before visiting Liberty next Tuesday.

Meanwhile, coach Jeff Jacksits' Kids played Central Catholic tough for a period, trailing the Vikettes by only 16-12 after 8 minutes. However, by the time the fourth quarter started it was 40-25 CCHS and that was too much of a deficit to overcome.

Leandra Sterner, the Kids' top scorer with 228 points in 13 games, led Northampton against the Vikettes with 18 points. Kayla Csencsits followed with 10.

Then against Pocono Mountain West in a nonleague game at home on Saturday, the Kids boosted their record to 6-7 overall, while going 2-5 in the Lehigh Valley Conference.

Sterner was again the top K-Kid with 20 points, while Csencsits and Aja Blount each added 8.

As far as continuity goes, Jacksits blames some of the season's ups and downs on the weather - citing lack of practices, continuity in the Kids' schedule and "not playing healthy."

The Kids, like most other teams this year, have played with illnesses and injuries throughout the season.

"Maybe a couple days off with some good, old chicken soup would help," said Jacksits.
