Boys win two recent meets

The Northampton swim teams swept Central and split with Nazareth in recent meets.

Against the Vikings on Jan. 14, Rachel Pursell and Paige Knouse led the way with double victories and all three relay teams posted wins as well, and the girls cruised 123-56.

Pursell won the 200 IM in 2:26.64 and the 500 free in 5:33.87 while Knouse took the 50 free in 26.06 and the 100 free in 57.30.

The 200 medley relay team of Emma Steirer, Annalise Christy, Knouse and Kaitlyn Nemes won in 2:06.62 while the 200 free team of Madison Bernal, Nemes, Pursell and Knouse won in 1:51.42. The 400 free team of Steirer, Pursell, Christy and Bernal won in 4:08.14.

Bernal and Steirer also picked up individual victories in the meet. Bernal won the 100 fly in 1:05.77 and Steirer the 100 back in 1:08.28.

The boys were 112-72 winners as Kyle Iasiello and Joey Szerencsits led the way with two individual victories each. Two relay teams also won for the guys.

Iasiello took the 50 free in 23.75 and the 100 free in 51.97. Szerencsits took the 200 free in 1:58.75 and the 500 free in 5:21.43.

The 200 free relay team of Cory Ninos, Ben Longacre, Szerencsits and Iasiello won in 1:38.11 while the 400 relay team of Steton Weber, Ninos, Szerencsits and Iasiello won in 3:36.01.

Weber, Nick Pavlacka and Kaden Chambers also won individual events. Weber captured the 200 IM in 2:16.18, Pavlacka the 100 back in 1:02.59 and Chambers the 100 breast in 1:12.24.

The boys and girls split against Nazareth with the boys coming away 116-63 winners on Jan. 18.

The guys were led by a relay sweep as well as Kaden Chambers picking up double, individual victories. Chambers won the 100 breast in 1:11.35 as well as the 500 free in 5:17.60. The 200 medley team of Nick Pavlacka, Ben Longacre, Steton Weber and Chambers won in 1:50.51 and the 200 free relay team of Longacre, Cory Ninos, Joey Szerencsits and Kyle Iasiello won in 1:34.81.

Weber, Iasiello, Longacre, Gavyn Frankenfield and Pavlacka all won individual events. Weber won the 200 IM in 2:18.41, Iasiello the 50 free in 23.51, Frankenfield the 100 fly in 1:00.57 and Pavlacka the 100 back in 1:02.04. Longacre took the diving portion with a score of 150.30.

The girls dropped a 115-70 contest to the Eagles.

Rachel Pursell, Madison Bernal and Emma Steirer were the lone winners for the ladies. Pursell took two victories, one in the 200 free in 2:07.21 and the other in the 500 free in 5:32.01. Bernal won the 100 fly in 1:04.45 and Steirer the 100 back in 1:08.42.

Nazareth won all three relay events.
