Girls rebound with a victory over Freedom

After losing three straight Lehigh Valley Conference games, the Konkrete Kids rebounded with 48-38 victory over visitor Freedom Tuesday.

"We needed this," said Northampton head coach Jeff Jacksits as his Northampton girls basketball team improved to 2-4 in the LVC and 5-6 overall. "It was like a football game, lots of bumping and rolling on the floor chasing loose balls.

"But we got a lot of contributions off the bench. We had four girls out with sicknesses (Ali Reppert, Erica Filipovits, Taylor Deutsch, and Francesca Sanchez) and Leandra (Sterner) played the whole game injured.

"Sophia Eckroth and Autumn Klucsarits played yeoman-like games and Zeniyah Sanders and Aja Blount did a good job on the board," added Jacksits.

Blount, who was top scorer with 12 points, had 14 rebounds and Sanders, who had 4 points, picked up 15 rebounds, while Eckroth scored eight points and Giovanna Martinez had six and Amber Farnholtz had five. Kayla Csencsits, playing only her third game after being sidelined with a foot injury, added another eight.

Seven girls scored for the Kids as Sterner was scoreless, but she did have five assists.

After getting blown out by Parkland (63-40) and Bethlehem Catholic (58-42), the K-Kids lost a heartbreaker at Emmaus (56-55), but had a chance to win but it did not happen.

In the Parkland loss, the Kids had a bad second period as the Trojans pulled away from a 20-17 lead to go in front by 42-22 at halftime. Sterner, who now has 190 points in 11 games, was the high with 14.

Then against Becahi, the Golden Hawks jumped out to a 27-8 lead after one period and coasted from there as all-state Kalista Walters scored 30 points. Sterner again was top scorer for the Kids with 16.

At Emmaus, Sterner had 14, Blount 13, and Csencsits 11.

The Kids hit the road Friday, playing Central Catholic at Rockne Hall then play five home games before visiting Liberty on January 2.

Starting with Friday, the Kids play seven games in 12 days. Following Friday's CCHS game the Kids are home Saturday for a nonleague game with Pocono Mountain West. They entertain Allen on Tuesday, Pleasant Valley on Thursday, Easton on Friday, and Dieruff on Monday January 27 before visiting Liberty on Tuesday January 28.
