Swimmers sweep Pocono West
The Northampton swimmers enjoyed a sweep of Pocono Mountain West on Jan. 4.
The girls were 135-36 winners.
Both Rachel Purcell and Madison Bernal led the way with double victories. Purcell won the 200 free in 2:07.48 and also took the 100 back in 1:06.05. Bernal was victorious in the 200 IM in 2:36.64 as well as the 100 fly in 1:04.89. The girls won all but one event in the contest.
Paige Knouse took the 50 free in 26.27 and Annalise Christy won the 500 free in 5:53.43. Morgan Fehnel took the 100 breast event in 1:27.42 while Alexis Frey won the diving competition with a score of 79.70.
Christy was second in the 200 free, Knouse was second in the 100 fly and Frey was second in the 500 free. Emma Steirer had two seconds, the 200 IM and the 100 back. Kaitlyn Nemes was second in the 100 free and was third in the 50 free.
All three Northampton relay teams were winners. The 200 medley team of Steirer, Christy, Bernal and Nemes won in 2:09.47; the 200 free team of Pursell, Bernal, Knouse and Nemes won in 1:52.58 while the 400 free team of Knouse, Steirer, Pursell and Christy had a winning time of 4:09.08.
Other girls who placed for the Kids included: Kelly Thoma (3rd 200 free), Gabby Guerrara (3rd 200 IM and 100 breast), Selena Cartagena (2nd diving), Hannah Peters (3rd 100 free), Hanna Novobilski (3rd 500 free) and Grace Cochrane (3rd 100 back).

On the boys side, they knocked off West by a score of 102-65.
Ben Longacre, Joey Szerencsits and Cory Ninos were double winners for the Kids. Longacre won the diving portion with a score of 111.10 and also the 100 breast in 1:13.74. Szerencsits took first in the 200 free in 2:04.86 and the 500 free in 5:37.90 while Ninos captured the 100 free in 52.18 and the 100 back in 1:00.99.
Kaden Chambers was also a winner for the boys taking the 200 IM in 2:17.33.
Two relay teams also won for the Kids. The 200 free team of Ninos, Longacre, Szerencsits and Kyle Iasiello won in 1:40.15 while the 400 free team of Szerencsits, Ninos, Iasiello and Chambers won in 3:38.41.
Also placing for the boys were: Nick Pavlacka (3rd 200 free, 3rd 100 back), Gavyn Frankenfield (2nd 200 IM, 2nd 100 fly), Chambers (3rd 100 fly), Iasiello (2nd 100 free, 3rd 500 free), Kyle Iasiello (2nd 100 free) and Josh Millan (2nd diving).
