Girls know they can score
One thing Jeff Jacksits knows about his Northampton girls basketball team is that his Konkrete Kids can score.
One-third of the way through the 2013-2014 basketball season the Kids are 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Lehigh Valley Conference.
But, with senior Leandra Sterner leading the Kids' lowest point output has been 43 points and that was in a LVC win over Whitehall.
The Kids wound up third in the Krah Christmas Classic at Central Catholic's Rockne Hall last week, losing 58-52 to North Hunterdon, N.J., before trouncing Pennsbury 73-52 in the consolation game.
Sterner had 17 points in the loss to North Hunterdon and picked up 25 points against Pennsbury to boost her season total to 146 points in seven games a 20.9 average.
Sterner, who was named the all-tourney team, also had 12 assists and seven rebounds against Pennsbury.
But, Jacksits' biggest concern is defense.
The Kids lost to Holy Redeemer 69-47 and Nazareth 70-47 for their other losses, but other than their three losses Northampton has been scoring in the 60s and 70s.
Helping Sterner on the scoring end are Aja Blount, Giovanna Martinez, and Ali Reppert. Blount had 13 against the North Hunterdon Lions and Martinez added 11. Against Pennsbury Martinez had 10 and Reppert had a career-high 18.
Northampton begins the heart of its schedule this week with a LVC game at Emmaus on Friday before playing three LVC games next week.
The Kids entertain Dieruff on Tuesday and take on Parkland at home Thursday during their Autism Speaks fundraiser that was postponed on December 17.
Then Friday, the Kids visit unbeaten Bethlehem Catholic before playing three more games the following week.
