Coplay column
There has been some changes in Coplay's small commercial landscape.
A restaurant is back on Chestnut Street next to the post office. First reports were Christine's was only to be a retail bakery.
As it has turned out, it has become a popular breakfast place and is now open for lunch. Gone are the booths and counter. There is table seating in a small but intimate area.
The Balliet family has no plans to reopen Bill's Restaurant on Second Street.
A "for rent" sign on the facade has given hope to some that a cook or chef interested in the business will open the borough landmark.
Also closed is the former Santee vehicle repair shop at Second and Center streets. Residents in the area said the squeaky-clean business with an attractive facade had been unusual because the macadam lot facing Second Street did not have vehicles piled up in it. Only vehicles scheduled for service that day were on the lot.
Buddy Santee was the last one in the family to operate a vehicle repair business in the borough. His father, who preceded him, had been the town's fire chief for years.

For the many who have not had an American Club of Coplay hoagie since May, don't fret.
The club will resume making the hoagies this month.
Now that the summer recess is over, the club's volunteers will put together meat and tuna hoagies, as well as sandwiches. Schools and organizations utilize the club's hoagies for fundraisers.
The club's annual family and membership picnic at the club's pavilion and grounds also will be held this month. Golf carts shuttle guests to the picnic.
