Bethlehem’s 250th birthday party at SteelStacks was a mixed bag as before a severe storm rolling in around 9 p.m. thousands in attendance enjoyed views from the Hoover Mason Trestle, live music performances, food and drink, glass blowing, a carnival ride and celebrating America’s Declaration of Independence two and one-half centuries before.
However, as a severe storm arrived that brought lightening, strong wind gusts and driving rain a questionable decision was made to begin the annual fireworks display leaving thousands of spectators’ safety in the hands of Mother Nature. This caused many attendees to flee to the safety of buildings and their vehicles as the fireworks went on with fewer and fewer spectators watching.
