The arrest of a 2011 Parkland graduate did not disrupt the June 12 graduation ceremony of Parkland High School's class of 2013, according to a statement released the next day by the school district.
According to Lehigh University's police crime log Richard Costello, no age or address listed, was arrested and cited for disorderly conduct 7:19 p.m. June 12 in Stabler Arena after allegedly being involved in a fight during the graduation ceremony.
A Twitter account, allegedly belonging to Costello carries the following comment about the incident: "Yeah sorry for protecting my stuff when a train military grown (expletive) man wants to hit a young man who was shot 3 times and can't really walk."
The district's statement continued: "Parkland School District was not directly involved in any incident that occurred at Stabler Arena during the Class of 2013 graduation ceremony. What we know is Stabler Arena security personnel did escort a spectator out of the arena during the ceremony, but it did not disrupt the ceremony and we are thankful Lehigh Police handled the disturbance swiftly and without any interruption to the proceedings. Because the spectator was an adult, police responded accordingly and did not share information with us.
"The student behavior was excellent and they enjoyed a wonderful ceremony with no disruption. There were no Parkland students involved in the incident.
There is no mention in the police crime log of the other individual, reportedly dressed in clothing similar to that of a U.S. Marine, involved in the incident.
