Johns, Morgan on ballot in November general election

South Whitehall Commissioners Thomas Johns and Christina Tori Morgan, both incumbent Republicans, were on Tuesday's ballot for re-election to the two open seats on the township board.

According to Lehigh County Voter Registration numbers, Johns received an unofficial 601 votes. Morgan garnered an unofficial 629 votes.

There were no Democratic candidates.

Johns owns Phoenix Construction Inc., which he founded 22 years ago.

A graduate of Penn State with a degree in business and finance, Johns has experience working in logistics, auditing and sales.

During the campaign, Johns said it is important for residents to become involved in township affairs, which is what he did by attending commissioners' meetings for several years before running for election in 2009.

Morgan, president of the board of commissioners, was selected five years ago to fill the unexpired term of a commissioner who resigned.

She won a four-year seat on the board in 2009 and has served four years on the township planning commission.

A graduate of Muhlenberg College, Morgan has had a career in environmental services.

Morgan emailed The Press the morning following the primary.

"I am honored with the support received during the primary elections," Morgan wrote. "Overall, it was a low voter turnout but every vote counts and based on the preliminary election results, I am looking forward to the general election in November.

"It has been a privilege to serve South Whitehall and I am excited for the opportunity to continue to work with the residents, business owners as well as South Whitehall Township staff to support good decisions that benefit the entire community, build relationships and communication and foster smart growth for a prosperous future."

Tax Collector Al Thompson, who was unchallenged in the primary, garnered an unofficial 753 votes.
