LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

MAMA’S MUSINGS By Lani Goins

Prescription pill bottles have become my latest nemesis. I swear my CVS is using a machine to close them. I take pills for my liver. Basically, they are bile pills, since I have a “paucity” of liver bile ducts. But I couldn’t open the bottle. I had my 13-year-old try. Nope. Finally, my oldest son was home, and I woefully interrupted his migraine to save my liver.

Climbing stairs and getting dressed are also difficult, but brick-lined sidewalks are the worst. It’s funny, when we first moved to Bethlehem, my youngest was 4 years old. As we would walk along the sidewalk, he would say, “Don’t step on the bricks!” At the time, it was amusing. Now, I make sure that my bad foot doesn’t contact the bricks whenever possible because they are often uneven, and my bad foot drags.

On a happier note, I am teaching again. For a little while, at least. My friend gave me a mug that says “Queen of the classroom.” It makes me smile. I keep it at home, because I only use mugs with screw on lids for work.

Halloween is here, and it will be pretty quiet. I am taking my youngest to the Charter Arts Haunted House. It should be fun.

My older son graduated from Charter Arts. He would like his brother to go, too. But so far, my youngest is committed to Liberty. It’s fine either way, so long as he is happy.

I think happiness is underrated in our current political climate. But to paraphrase Madonna, “Happiness is where you find it.”

Speaking of finding things, I am searching for gluten-free cinnamon rolls. I made a second attempt with the gluten-free puff pastry, and it was not successful. My youngest is on very limited gluten, and he adores cinnamon rolls.

We have found good gluten-free pastas and gluten-free chicken tenders, but the bread items are tougher to find. It doesn’t help that my youngest is a picky eater.

I hope you all had a Happy Halloween. Thanksgiving is just around the corner. The Christmas trees on the poles in Bethlehem are going up. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Enjoy!
