•SCHOOL CLOSURE: All BASD schools will be closed Monday, Sept. 21.
•HALF DAY: All BASD schools will have a half day Oct. 14. High schools dismiss at 11 a.m., middle schools at 11:30 a.m. and elementary schools at noon.
•FOOTBALL WINS: Freedom and Liberty high school football teams earned back-to-back wins. Superintendent Dr. Lajara led the celebration and showed off his cheerleading skills on the sidelines.

•CLIMB BETHLEHEM: More than 2,000 students from Freedom and Liberty high schools came together Sept. 11 for a day of remembrance and solidarity.
•GRANT APPLICATIONS: Teacher Innovation & Service Learning Grant applications are open through the Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District. Applications, proposal materials, rubrics and examples are available. Questions may be sent to thefoundation@basdschools.org.
•BUS RIDE: Dr. Lajara rode Mr. Bob’s bus while Lehigh Valley Public Media filmed an interview featuring the BASD bus driver. He also talked with Nitschmann Middle School students about their daily ride.
•STORYTIME VISIT: Dr. Lajara visited a kindergarten classroom at William Penn Elementary School and read one of his favorite books, One, by Kathryn Otoshi.
•LITERACY MONTH: BASD is celebrating National Literacy Month with book highlights, teacher favorites and reading-related stories. Visit the BASD Schools Facebook page for more.
•WORK TRAINING: Freedom High School School-to-Work students are at job sites through the STEPS program, which provides low-risk, high-impact opportunities for diverse learners and the community.
•STUDENT LEADERS: Dr. Lajara visited Clearview Elementary School’s Leader in Me students. Clearview is a Leader in Me Lighthouse School, where students build leadership skills through mission statements, portfolios, leadership roles and the 7 Habits.

LEHIGH VALLEY CHARTER ARTS HS
•SCHOOL CLOSURES: Charter Arts will be closed Monday, Sept. 21, and Oct. 12.
•BOARD MEETING: The school board meeting is Oct. 8.
•OPEN HOUSE: Open House is Oct. 10.
•ARTIST EXHIBIT: A professional artist exhibit featuring Konstantin Rudnichenko opens Oct. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Corpora Gallery at Charter Arts. The event is non-ticketed; donations are welcome.
•LITERARY SHOWCASE: The Literary Arts Showcase at The Lodge is Oct. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Café the Lodge, 427 E. 4th St. The event is non-ticketed; donations are welcome.

•ABOUT CENTENNIAL: Centennial School is an approved private special education day school licensed to serve students with emotional disturbance and autism, ages 6-12, with an upper-limit entry age of 12. The school operates 180 days from August through June.
BETHLEHEM CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

•FAMILY MEETING: The Swain Campus Family Association brainstorm meeting is Sept. 25 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Cougar Café, with a Zoom option available.
