The Alburtis Area Community Center is seeking volunteers to help lead a new community effort to renovate, revive and preserve the Alburtis pool.

The call for volunteers follows a special public meeting held recently to discuss the “Renovate, Revive and Save the Alburtis Pool” project. The primary focus of the meeting was to form a committee that can begin organizing the project, developing plans and preparing for the work needed to protect the pool’s long-term future.

The organization is looking to fill several volunteer leadership roles, including chairperson, cochairperson, treasurer, secretary and a marketing and media position. Organizers said the committee’s schedule will be flexible, with meetings potentially held in person, via Zoom or through a combination of both formats to accommodate volunteers’ availability.

People do not need to be Alburtis residents to participate. The community center is encouraging anyone with experience in leadership, fundraising, finance, event planning, communications, marketing, construction, community organizing or nonprofit work to express interest in joining the committee.

The Alburtis pool has been owned and operated by the nonprofit Alburtis Area Community Center since it was established in 1972. The facility was built through local support, volunteer labor and community involvement, and volunteers continue to play a central role in maintaining its operations.

Organizers said the pool serves as more than a recreational facility during the summer. It provides children, families and visitors with a local place to gather, swim and spend time together while offering young people opportunities to form friendships and participate in safe summer activities.

Supporters also said preserving the pool could benefit the wider community by maintaining a valued neighborhood amenity for current residents and families considering a move to the area. The renovation initiative is intended to address the pool’s needs before the facility faces the kinds of financial or operational challenges that have led other community pools to reduce services or close.

The committee will help guide the next phase of the project and build support for the pool’s future. Organizers are asking season pass holders, past visitors, local residents, community partners and anyone who values the facility to get involved as plans move forward.
