July 18
Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., Macungie, will hold a Love Your Neighbor fundraiser to help erase medical debt 1 to 4 p.m. The event will include an ice cream social, a bake sale and a basket raffle. There is a cost for tickets for the ice cream social.
The band Flamin’ Dick & The Hotrods will perform 1950s-era music 6-8:30 p.m. at the Hills at Lockridge Park, Scenic View Drive, Macungie.
July 19
The Large Flowerheads band performs 6 to 8 p.m. at Emmaus Community Park, Shimerville Road, as part of the summer concert series. Admission is free. The band specializes in popular music of the 1960s and early 1970s.
July 24
The Emmaus Moravian Church will be hold a special Community Lovefeast 4 p.m. before the kickoff of the Emmaus 250 events. A Lovefeast is a special communal fellowship service that includes a bun, a drink, prayers and hymns to foster unity, charity and mutual affection among those attending the service. All are welcome to join in this celebration of peace and love.
July 24-26
The Borough of Emmaus, Emmaus Main Street Partners, the Emmaus Historical Alliance and numerous other local groups, will host the Emmaus 250 Celebration along streets, at historic sites, parks and in public gathering spaces throughout the borough. The annual Emmaus Heritage Festival at historic sites, music performances, children’s activities and attractions, a car show, food trucks, a drone and light show at Emmaus High School and an ecumenical worship service are among expected highlights. July 25
The Emmaus Moravian Church will present a tour event at God’s Acre 10:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Since many streets will be closed to traffic, shuttles will be available at the corner of South Second and Main streets. The shuttles will run to the four historic properties in the borough which will include a stop at God’s Acre. There will be three separate 15 minute tours with different themes. Visitors may choose to take one, two or all three as interested. Tour 1 will be at the location of the first church of the community and cover the beginning of the village. Tour 2 will be at the location of the Revolutionary War veterans’ graves and tell the tale of what was happening in the village at that time. Tour 3 will be miscellaneous graves of interest including the first three graves at the cemetery, the Native American girl from the boarding school, a famous Swedish visitor, the first doctor in the village and the two Civil War veterans among others. Visitors will be directed by a God’s Acre greeter to the tour locations when exiting their shuttle.
Emmaus Heritage Festival will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of the Emmaus Historical Society, 218 Main St., Emmaus. Hosted by the Emmaus Heritage Alliance, the free, family-friendly event will feature live music, crafts, games, a food truck, Pennsylvania long rifle and blacksmith demonstrations, interactive historical displays, and activities presented by the Emmaus Historical Society, Shelter House, Knauss Homestead, 1803 House, Emmaus Public Library, Emmaus Moravian Church, and Emmaus Main Street Partners. The festival coincides with the America250 PA Emmaus celebration taking place in downtown Emmaus.
July 27-30
Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second Street, Emmaus, in partnership with the BARN Community, is holding Vacation Bible School for children ages 3 through the fifth grade at Faith Church 6 to 8 p.m. Highlights will include stories, games, music and crafts. The Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, 3441 Devonshire Road, will host its summer boutique and craft vendor fair 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Aug. 11
JuxtaHub, 375 S. 10th St., Emmaus, will host a closing reception for its summer exhibition “The Color of Stories” 6-8 p.m. The exhibition features work by artists Alexandra Schnabel, Anthony Smith, Billy Thompson, Dayanara Romero, Deming King-Harriman, Dylan Collazo, Evan Stutts, Genesis Rodriguez, Julia Lundy, Tijasia Lett and Tory Schultz. Admission is free and all are welcome.
Aug. 16
The Vera Cruz Community Association will host the 74th annual Vera Cruz Homecoming celebration noon to 8 p.m. at Mystic Chain Park, Main Road East, Upper Milford Township. The event will include music performances by the Rehrig Brothers, noon to 3 p.m. and the band Time Whys, 5-8 p.m. A cakewalk will be held 3 p.m. All are welcome.
Aug. 29
Parkland Art League artists will hold a pop-up art show and sale 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kalmbach Memorial Park, 200 Cotton St., Macungie.
Sept. 5
Upper Milford Township will celebrate America’s semiquincentennial at Lenape Park, Kings Highway South, Zionsville, noon to 6 p.m. The event is expected to include a parade, games and activities for kids, music performances, food trucks and more.
Sept. 23
The Emmaus Garden Club will travel to the New York Botanical Gardens. There is a cost for tickets and the reservation deadline is Aug. 23.
The 250-acre NYBG is located in The Bronx and is a national historic landmark. Trip highlights will include the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, rose gardens, water features and New York City’s only fresh water river. A 30-minute narrated tram tour also will be available to visitors.
