Great Big Group rides for pediatric cancer
After participating as a major sponsor for the July 19 Great Big Group Ride fundraiser for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley, Heavy & Highway Construction Laborers Local 158 Business Manager Jamie Andrews and his fellow union members decided to go the extra mile.
When he became aware that 13-year-old cancer survivor Carter Boyle was riding for the first time in the cycling event with his grandfather Paul Boyle, Andrews was so impressed, he took up a collection from among the local and state membership to replace the old bike that Carter was steering with a new, personalized Trek road bike.
With family, including siblings Cash (11) and Cannon (9), Laborers Local 158 members from the Coplay office, and PCFLV staff gathered around, Carter was surprised with his new wheels July 31 at PCFLV’s headquarters in South Whitehall, less than a week after he turned 14.
“These guys do a fantastic job at PCFLV with everything they do, and this was just an opportunity we had to take,” remarks Andrews.
The Boyle family resides in Coplay.
The Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley provides free programming and services to local children with cancer and their families.
