East Allen holds Halloween trunk or treat

On a picture-perfect autumn evening at East Allen Township’s Bicentennial Park, 5351 Park West Lane, the township held its Halloween trunk or treat. The large turnout, the colorful costumes and the volunteer teamwork made this memory-making event successful.

The fun began around 6 p.m., and a gorgeous sunset of yellow, orange and red bathed the near-cloudless sky. With brown and yellow leaves that recently fell off the trees seen around the park, the autumn ambience was accented with a nearly full moon.

Numerous decorated vehicles had candy and treats for kids. There were games and awards given for best costumes, best trunk and a costume parade that included pets. Very large and some scary, spooky demons were found around the pavilion area.

John Cavanagh, of New Dimension Sound, provided Halloween music throughout the evening. Some attendees sang along and swayed to the music. Visit ndsound.com for deejay services at your next party.

Scott Christman, of East Allen Township, brought his dog named Dokken dressed in a Halloween costume. Christman said the dog is named after a 1980s heavy-metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1978 that performed through 1989.

Two members of the Moravian University women’s field hockey team — Collette Frack, of Bethlehem, and Molly McFetridge, of Allentown — had their car trunk ready with candy to give youngsters. Both student athletes, Frack is a nursing student and McFetridge is studying health sciences.

Moore Township resident Kyle Hughes had what he called his “cyclops car” decorated with large teeth and candy with treats for kids stopping by. He said he was enjoying the beautiful evening.

East Allen Township Volunteer Fire Department helped sponsor and run the event. Deputy Chief Ray Henry was moving around nearly all evening. The fire police had their hands full with directing parking as an overflow attendance also meant overflow cars to park.

The department also sponsors the upcoming December holiday celebration.

The fire department is seeking additional volunteer firefighters and fire police. Also, anyone who can provide financial support is appreciated. Visit eastallenfire.org to learn about this active public service organization.

The well-organized Halloween gathering was an impressive event for all present. Kids and families had fun together in a safe environment. It truly was a community-strengthening effort.

The next remarkable festivity in East Allen Township is the December holiday celebration at Bicentennial Park. Stay tuned for holiday celebration details.
