CWSA discusses possibility of data centers in Whitehall

During Coplay Whitehall Sewer Authority’s meeting June 18, General Manager Matt Harleman spoke about potential data centers in Whitehall Township.

Currently, there are no proposed centers, but CWSA wants to be proactive by making a zoning ordinance that addresses data centers and digital infrastructure facilities so that there’s something in place in case one is proposed, it was reported.

This sparked a lengthy discussion between Harleman, the CWSA board and Whitehall Township Commissioner Ken Snyder. The major concern is with consumption and discharge. The discussion was a lot of speculation as data center sizes and requirements vary greatly.

James Hahn said CWSA has room for an extra 1.2 million gallons a day, but they are not allowed to add that much to the system. There is a limit as to what CWSA can add to the system.

It can only add 160,000 gallons and, with the two car washes that are going in, they are probably down to about 138,000.

Harleman mentioned that since the board packet went out, Buckno Lisicky and Company completed its first monthly cursory review of CWSA’s financial reporting, and they had no comments at this time.

Harleman also mentioned the maintenance period has expired on the 4601 Corey St. subdivision. Developer George McCool Inc. is asking CWSA to discharge the remaining balance of the letter of credit, which is $7,800. With the maintenance period being expired, and having received the drawings that were requested, Harleman recommended the board release the full amount. This motion was carried.
