As America celebrates its 250th birthday, we will gather for parades, fireworks, and barbecues to honor our remarkable history. However, the best way to celebrate our freedom is by serving those around us.
Our nation’s founders envisioned a country where citizens would not only enjoy liberty but also accept the responsibility of strengthening their communities. That spirit is alive throughout the Lehigh Valley, where neighbors volunteer at food pantries, clean parks, and support families in need.
As a letter carrier, I have the privilege of serving my community daily and witnessing countless acts of kindness that rarely make headlines. Volunteering with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, I have seen people of different faiths and backgrounds come together to serve with compassion and respect. These experiences remind me that service is one of the most meaningful expressions of patriotism.
As we begin America’s next 250 years, let us honor these everyday heroes by following their example. Visit a lonely neighbor, volunteer for a local charity, or simply lend a helping hand. The greatest tribute we can offer our country is to leave our communities stronger than we found them.
