SP wins LVL regular season

South Parkland has already wrapped up a spot in the American Legion Regional 2 playoffs next week virtue of its Lehigh Valley League regular season championship.

The Trojans finished with the league’s best record at 12-3, holding off a late run by Lower Macungie to catch them in the standings.

The Trojans tuned up for the postseason with wins over Lower Macungie and Salisbury. Mack Parsell threw a 4-0 win over Lower Macungie and four pitchers got in work in a 5-2 win over Salisbury.

Parsell struck out seven and allowed just one run, needing just 89 pitches – 66 of which were strikes – to beat the Mustangs.

At the plate, Andrew Bowser, Carter DeLong, Nolan Wampler, and Ben Weninger all had two hits in the win. South Parkland also has some speed on the basepaths and showed some speed with DeLong swiping two bases and Carter Wanamaker and Wampler both stealing a base.

South Parkland put up three runs in the bottom of the third when Ryan Rooney drove in the first run of the game on an RBI groundout and Jake Strobel followed with an RBI single.

Strobl would score the third run of the inning when Ben Taylor singled to right with the bases loaded to put South Parkland up 3-0.

Against Salisbury, South Parkland did all of its scoring in the first two innings and then relied on solid pitching to carry them the rest of the way.

DeLong, Taylor and Wanamaker each threw two shutout innings and combined to strike out 10 batters.

In the bottom of the first, Rooney walked and stole second and with two outs, Andrew Bowser came through with a single to right to make it 1-0.

In the second, Jaxon Kramer and Delong delivered back-to-back singles, pulled off a double steal, and both advanced on a wild pitch for the second run.

A passed ball and single from Carter Wanamaker made it 4-0 and one out later, Wanamaker used another passed ball, a stolen base and a wild pitch to put Parkland up 5-0.

The Trojans led the league standings wire to wire this season on their way to the regular season championship.

The Lehigh Valley League is holding its postseason tournament this week.

The winner will join the Trojans next week at the regional tournament in Quakertown. If South Parkland wins the tournament, the team that finishes second will earn the LVL’s other bid to regionals.
